New start venue for cycle ride

THE popular Awliscombe Charity Ride has been re-named this year to reflect the event's on-going support for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

THE popular Awliscombe Charity Ride has been re-named this year - to reflect the event's on-going support for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.When cyclists set off on the 24-mile route on Saturday, May 3, they will be taking part in the Devon Air Ambulance Bike Ride.Organisers Adrian and Julie Phillips, who have been staging the cycle ride for nine years, say the starting point in 2008 will be The Otter Inn, Weston.Cyclists will be able to sign in from 9am, with the official start at around 10am.Refreshments and baps will be available at the start and a barbeque will be provided during a stop in Whimple.Last year the event raised £2,200 and Mr Phillips says he'd like to thank sponsors South West Highways, Hillside Garage, Cycle Honiton and Heathpark Commercials for ensuring this year's event can go ahead.Fancy dress is optional during the seven-stop ride and the entry fee is £5 per person or sponsorship.Since its inception, the event has raised a total of £10,847.n For further information, call (01404) 44523.
