It was such a relief to find out that from Monday we didn’t have to wear a face covering in our lessons at school.

But old habits die hard and I, and the majority of my year, had taken one to school just in case.

Most pupils were confused about the new rules, for instance: do we still have to wear a mask in the corridors even though they weren’t required in lessons? Do we have to put them on if we were near people not in our bubble?

Thankfully, it transpired that we didn’t have to wear them around the school premises at all.

It felt so weird to walk into a corridor and into a classroom without an irritating piece of fabric covering your face and actually being able to breathe properly.

And it was nice to not have to worry about where your mask was and having to put it back on after every break and lunch.

I found out that actually after wearing a mask for so long we got used to wearing them so taking them off felt very different.

Before the rules were relaxed we had to wear the face coverings for anything, such as on the bus, in the corridors, in lessons, entering the building, and the only time we could take them off was in our break and lunch periods.

We still have to wear face coverings on the bus (if we take the bus) but everywhere else we don’t have to, even when we are passing another year group.

What still is necessary is the lateral flow testing, which we have to do at home twice a week without fail.

Although I am used to the procedure now, it’s not nice at all but at least we can keep track of our results and it makes school safer for the pupils and teachers.

Because Covid isn’t as widespread as it used to be, the restrictions are being lifted meaning soon enough we won’t have to test for the disease and finally (hopefully) go to school normally again.
