A CAR wash at Colyford memorial Hall raised over 1,000 for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Businessman Martin Balmond organised the event, which ran from 8am to 2pm last Saturday, along with around 20 helpers who worked in shifts.

His wife Alison, who was also a helper, said: "From the moment the group started, until they finished, they didn't stop. It was a very busy and successful day.

"Everybody was very generous. We would like to thank everybody who helped and to all those who had their cars washed and generously supported it.
