Jim and Joanna Little raise more than £500 for a prostate cancer charity.

A NORTHLEIGH couple braved the waters off South Devon to raise more than £500 for prostate cancer sufferers and their families when they took on an island swim.

Jim and Joanna Little joined 126 fund-raisers to take on a charity swim around Burgh Island for the Chestnut Appeal.

Jim, who is no stranger to charity challenges, told the Midweek Herald he had always wanted to swim around the island after holidaying in the area.

“We loved the idea,” he says.

To train for the swim, the couple took to the sea in Seaton - as well as doing the occasional lap in a swimming pool.

His wife, Joanna, said: “It was a fun experience. We would definitely do it again.

“There was a good camaraderie and we got to see some amazing scenery around the island which was really beautiful.

“It was brilliant to be part of something like that.”

She added: “On the day, the event was really well organised and everyone was friendly and supportive.”

The couple have raised £590 for the appeal and were surprised by the kind donations they received.

Jim said: “The Chestnut Appeal is a fantastic charity that helps people with prostate cancer and their families. I had a relative that suffered from the disease, so it was something in my mind.”
