ALTHOUGH burglary is often an opportunist crime and there are many things householders can do to reduce their chances of being burgled nothing is likely to stop the determined thief.
ALTHOUGH burglary is often an opportunist crime and there are many things householders can do to reduce their chances of being burgled nothing is likely to stop the determined thief.That's what PC Ian Atyeo admitted to Honiton Town Council when he revealed that a rear window of a property in Honiton was recently smashed by a burglar hell bent on gaining access.Just two house burglaries were reported in Honiton between February 11 and March 3, but the personal nature of the crime prompted the mayor, Councillor Vernon Whitlock, to press PC Atyeo for answers.Councillor Whitlock said he was "concerned" about burglaries. He asked why investigations into such crimes should not be prioritised in the same way as the PACT process.PC Atyeo said burglary investigations are conducted as part of normal police work.In the rare case of a determined break-in, vigilance is the key to detecting the crime.The community has a vital role to play in helping to combat burglars, PC Atyeo said.
