Obstacles for

the blind

As one of the newest people

to go totally blind in this

area, I was asked to bring

this to your attention.

The question; how difficult

is it to walk around

Seaton, when totally blind?

Overgrown garden hedges,

recycling bins, A-boards,

blinds over shops that are

too low, mobility cars, concrete

flower tubs and now

signs in the middle of the

pavements?

One in Fore Street and

now the new ones in Queen

Street. I am not writing this

to moan, I am writing this

to acknowledge how hard

it actually is. If anybody

would like to come around

with me, I would quite

like to show them the ups

and downs of being totally

blind. I have now got a new

PA, the answer to the above

from my PA is: "I've been

with John just over a week,

many hedges are overgrown

and scratching John

or I. This makes walking

on narrow pavements very

difficult. When John is on

his own using his cane, he

can't see the amount of dog

mess which litters the pavements

around Seaton. At

least when I am with him,

we can avoid this and the

carpet cleaning bills which

usually occur. I did not

realise the difficulty blind

people have to go through,

such as the above, and now

will quite happily help and

assist whatever disability,

if they require help."
