Officers want to trace the driver of a large white articulated goods vehicle seen travelling near the crash scene in Axminster

Police investigating a fatal collision on the A35 outside Axminster on Monday morning (April 29) are keen to trace the driver of a large white articulated goods vehicle.

The accident, which happened near Kilmington Cross at around 5.50am, involved two HGVs, which collided head-on.

Both male drivers were trapped in their vehicles.

One driver, a 54-year-old man from Winchester, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, a 36-year-old man from the Bristol area, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital where he is currently being treated for serious head and leg injuries.

Now police want to hear from anyone who saw a white articulated large goods vehicle, towing a rust-coloured shipping container, which was travelling on the A35 from the Dorchester area into Devon between 4.30am and 6am on that morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police with information by calling 101, or via email at 101@dc.police.uk, quoting log 70 of 29/04/19.
