Offwell presses ahead with new shop plan

IN the week that Post Office Limited confirmed Offwell Post Office would close next month, a charity in the village underlined its commitment to the community's shop.

IN the week that Post Office Limited confirmed Offwell Post Office would close next month, a charity in the village underlined its commitment to the community's shop.Offwell Rural Services Association (ORCA) has supporting a planning application to East Devon District Council for a permanent structure to house the village shop.For more than four years the outlet has been housed, along with the post office, in a temporary building next to the village hall.An agent is seeking consent for an extension to the village hall to provide a permanent home for the business.Up until now, volunteers have staffed the shop. Sainsbury's and local producers support the venture.Sub-postmistress Helen Garwood, who is being made redundant by Post Office Limited, has been offered a part-time job running the shop by ORCA.
