Crowds brave torrential rain to cheer on the flame
Crowds braved torrential rain to cheer on the Olympic Flame as it was carried across West Dorset yesterday (Thursday).
Travelling from Dorchester, via Bridport and Chideock, the relay arrived in Lyme Regis mid afternoon to be greeted by huge crowds, who turned out despite the downpour.
The torch was carried on a tour of the resort and then along the seafront to The Cobb where it went under cover in the RNLI boathouse to be prepared for the next leg.
Later it continued its journey along the Jurassic Coast to Portland – home of the London Olympics sailing events.
A total of 8,000 people will carry the flame during its 8,000 mile, 70-day journey to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London on 27 July.
