Children at Shute Primary School work with a Cornish artist to create two papier mache athletes
Pupils at Shute Community Primary School have created two sculptures inspired by this year’s Olympics.
Children from Elder Class came up with some initial ideas and then worked with Cornish artist Lucy Jackson to bring them to life.
Using simple sculptural frames, made of timber poles, and old dustbins she helped the youngsters to use acrylic paint, papier mache and gaffer tape to create the two figures.
Headteacher Amanda Graham said: “I am very grateful to Lucy for helping the children bring their ideas to life in a way that really captures the spirit of the Olympics.
“They’ve also experienced, first-hand, what it’s like to take a drawing and turn it into a three-dimensional object. The resulting sculptures are amazing.”
