ALLHALLOWS Museum, in Honiton, has re-opened for the 2009 season with new and improved displays and, by popular demand, the return of Dorean Mowforth's spectacular UK lace map.
ALLHALLOWS Museum, in Honiton, has re-opened for the 2009 season with new and improved displays and, by popular demand, the return of Dorean Mowforth's spectacular UK lace map.To mark the start of the new season, the museum is staging a free open day on Saturday, April 11 - an ideal opportunity for local people to see the changes that have been made over the winter months.The Honiton hippo display has been updated, East Devon Metal Detecting Club has a completely new display and Nancy Woolfe-Prettyjohn from the USA has painted five pieces of Honiton lace from the museum collection and her work will be on display until July.For the first time, a red silk damask, dating back to the reign of James I, is being shown, along with damask silk decorated with silver thread embroidery, edged with handmade real gold lace. The latter item was worn by Mary Walker when she married the Reverend William Putt, of Gittisham, in 1763.Allhallows' Victorian display has been replaced by Georgian fashion and accessories.To commemorate Pat Perryman's 40-year involvement in lace making, cases are now displaying a selection of her work from over the decades.
