A SEATON man was travelling to visit his mother in Axminster when he was killed in a car accident last Saturday morning.

William Kelland, 23, died instantly when his Honda Civic type 'R' car left the road and collided with a gate post and wall at a farm in Musbury.

Mr Kelland celebrated his birthday a week ago and had been looking forward to a summer trip to the Dominican Republic with friends.

Parents David and Georgina, and sister Claire, have paid tribute to a "handsome, lovely lad".

William's devastated girlfriend, Charly Moore, was too upset to speak to the Midweek Herald about her loss.

Mrs Kelland said: "He was a much loved son and brother; a lovely boy. We had a great family - we worked and played together - and it's like part of our jigsaw is missing."

William worked as a mechanic at the family business, Prospect Garage, in Lyme Road, Axminster.

He was also known to friends as 'Mo', referring to the Eastender character because of his feisty nature.

The family have been inundated with cards and telephone calls from well wishers, sending condolences. Mrs Kelland would like to thank everybody for their kind words.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.15am and Mrs Kelland was informed of her son's death later that afternoon.

She said: "I have done so much crying, but today (Tuesday, March 23) I feel stronger. He had telephoned to say he was coming up to see us but, when he didn't show, I thought he had decided not to come, because of the grotty weather."

She paid tribute to her son: "He always lived life to the full. He was a lovely boy and brilliant with the customers in the garage."

Claire, 24, said she had been close to her brother and appreciated the time they had had.

She said: "We were very close - we worked together and spent a lot of time together.

"He was my confidant - one of few people I could really trust.

"He was taken away too soon, but I'm grateful for the time I had with him."

Friends have posted tributes and written poetry on Facebook for the former Axe Valley Community College student.

Many wrote of their shock and sadness at the death of their friend, lamenting that his life was cut short when he had so much to offer.

The funeral service is to be held at the Minster in Axminster, but the date has yet to be confirmed.

Mrs Kelland said: "Everyone is welcome to come and say goodbye - it's what he would have wanted."

A police spokesman said initial enquiries suggest the vehicle was overtaking another vehicle before losing control and leaving the carriageway.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them on 08452 777 4444, quoting log number 280 of March 20.

FUNERAL details will be posted on the Midweek Herald's website as soon as they are known.
