Where is the ‘community’ in Honiton?

That was the question posed by carnival committee member and Honitonian Mike Tucker at a public meeting in the town.

He was addressing the meeting, called by six electors, before a vote was taken on whether or not a second town poll should be held over plans for a £2million community centre.

Mr Tucker pointed out not a single member of the public attended the carnival’s recent annual meeting.

Referring to the community centre, he said: “You haven’t got any support.

“There will be bits of this and bits of that in it and then people will drift away.

“There is no community in Honiton - it’s all outsiders coming in.”
