The coastguard was called out to help paramedics yesterday (Saturday) when a 77-year-old man fell on steps in Seaton and had a suspected broken hip.

Beer Coastguard Rescue Team was called shortly after 3pm to the elderly man, who had fallen down the steps behind Chine, in Seaton.

A spokesman from the team said: “He was halfway down a set of about 40 steps when he fell, and the paramedic believed he had broken his hip.

“He was packaged onto a stretcher and carried down the remaining steps and to the waiting ambulance for a transfer to hospital.

“We wish him a speedy recovery.”
