New youth club sessions are a hit with the resort’s children.

New youth club sessions are off to a flying start in Seaton, but parent power is the key to ensure it continues to thrive.

Seaton’s Voice, which took over the running of the town hall, set up the youth club sessions last December.

Two sessions are run every week for seven to 11-year-olds and 11 to 16-year-olds.

Since launching, the sessions have been averaging attendances of between 20 to 30 children, which has been “growing naturally,” says Carol Manley of Seaton’s Voice.

“This is just what is needed and we would like to enhance what we have got.

“We have always said the town hall is the home of the community and it really is about our home in our community.

“It was massively needed – what was needed for the young people in the town was for them to have a building and somewhere they can call home.”

The move has been welcomed by parents, who have been lending a hand with the youth club.

Parent Angela Backen said: “It is really good. There was nothing here for children before. I hope we can keep it going.

“I would like to see them do more.”

Parent Ronnie Barrand, who helps at the sessions, said: “It is a brilliant idea. It is a nice place for the kids to go.

“It definitely needs parental support.”

Carol hopes to develop the youth sessions further and give young people in the resort the opportunity to hold their own events.

Seaton’s Voice has been looking into developing a leadership programme where the older children help the younger children.

Carol added: “I am pleased with how it is going.

“The potential of what we have here is so exciting.

“This is just what is needed and we would like to enhance what we have got.”

She added: “We need the support of parents to keep it going and to help out.”

The town hall also hosts a Youth Caf, which will be used to run a homework club.

The town hall’s status, not only within the resort but also further afield, has been growing and is starting to establish Seaton as an entertainments hub.

Seaton’s Voice has already helped to boost the local economy - putting back 66,000 to local businesses in the area.
