EAST Devon District Council should carry out a complete overhaul" of its car parking charges.

EAST Devon District Council should carry out a "complete overhaul" of its car parking charges. That was the recommendation to come out of a Honiton Town Council working group meeting, attended by Ralph Hibbert, chairman of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The working party, chaired by Councillor Vivienne Ash and set up to look into the Local Development Framework, also recommended a rethink over how profits from parking charges are spent. The meeting, held on November 17, further heard that the layout of Lace Walk car park should be "reconsidered and any major redevelopment should include social housing".Consideration was given to relocating the cattle market, in Silver Street, to Heathpark - to facilitate an extension of the neighbouring car park. The working group, however, acknowledged there are restrictions included in agreements over use of the cattle market land which may mean such a plan is not possible.Devon County Council is opposed to a park and ride scheme in Honiton, but the working group felt there should be a trial - on Tuesdays and Saturdays, as well as during December.
