Such is the success of the scheme, council bosses have confirmed it will be on offer this month (February 2015)
The chairman of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce has heaped praise on the £2 all-day winter parking offer run by East Devon District Council (EDDC).
Colin Wright said the offer has brought a range of benefits to the town.
He added that the group was ‘exceptionally pleased’ with the take-up of the car parking concession offered.
“The Tourist Information Centre reports that the car parks were almost full for most of December and received many complimentary comments on the price offered in them,” Mr Wright said.
“The concession has brought a tremendous extra amount of footfall to Honiton.”
EDDC bosses have confirmed the £2 all-day winter parking offer could return to Honiton this year. The offer allows any £2 ticket purchased after 10am to be used in any EDDC pay and display car park for the rest of the day - excluding Parkmobile payments.
The scheme has been a huge hit with motorists and visitors to Honiton.
An EDDC spokesman confirmed that the offer has been extended into February.
The spokesman said: “This is a slow time of year for traders and we wanted to encourage people to go out shopping more and to support their local retailers.
“The parking offer has proved extremely successful to date in Honiton.”
No final figures have been released by EDDC because the offer is still running.
The spokesman added: “We will review the outcome carefully. If it has proved a success, we will repeat it again next winter.”
