Dozens of empty alcohol containers were left strewn around the outside of the building in Lace Walk, following an overnight party in the car park last Wednesday.

Beer bottles had been discarded in undergrowth and even on top of hedges.

Lager cans and other rubbish were also found at the site early last Thursday.

Information centre manager Heidi Radford was in the process of cleaning up when East Devon District Council-employed Mr Westcott offered his services.

He cleared the area, pointing out there is a bottle bank just a few hundred yards away in Dowell Street.

Heidi told the Herald: "I'm not against people enjoying themselves - just not here.

"I wish they would party somewhere else or clean up their rubbish.
