EVERYONE in Honiton should be proud of the town s hospital.

EVERYONE in Honiton should be proud of the town's hospital.

That is the view of a former patient, who spent more than a month in the hospital's medical ward.

Former Honiton Borough Council housing manager Jim Kendall (pictured) , 87, is now recovering at home after being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a condition that causes the nerves to fight muscles. The condition affects one in every 10,000.

Mr Kendall was transferred to Honiton Community Hospital from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on May 13, where he remained until June 23.

"Being in hospital has been a real eye-opener," said Mr Kendall. "Everyone in Honiton should be proud of their hospital.

"As far as I am concerned, the staff are absolutely wonderful.

"From the nurses right down to the cleaning staff, they were all fantastic.

"Nothing was too much trouble for them.

"They were so helpful."

Mr Kendall heaped particular praise on the hospital's recently appointed modern matron, Doonum Beeharry.

"He is fantastic," he said.

"He made me feel at home."

Now that Mr Kendall is out of hospital, he would like to thank all those who visited him or sent cards.

"I am nobody in particular, but it was amazing the number of cards I received," he said.
