The Six Bells held its first charity evening last Saturday in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and raised 2,000. During the evening, there was a range of activities including a raffle, bingo and quiz games. There were even poker and blackjack tables running. All of this went on while the barbecue was fired up outside and live music played in the pub's function room - local band Roots were headed up by Terry Pike and they soon got the pub singing along to all the old (and new) favourites. In contrast, Rosie May was a young, impressive, solo singer on acoustic guitar, who gave fantastic renditions of cover songs mixed with some beautiful softer music that she wrote herself. The highlights of the fundraising were the silent auction and slave auction. The silent auction, where local people and businesses had donated anything from personal line drawings to hot air balloon flights, signed sports memorabilia through to VIP Horse Racing Tickets. The slave auction was also a huge success, raising some 400 from five men putting their time forward to provide trades and skills as requested by the bidder.Nicola Mould, who organised the event, said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to all our friends, family and local businesses that were able to support the event for such a worthy cause. "The pub is very lucky to have such great support for events like this."We are now moving on to organise the next event which is a Ladies' Pamper Evening on Friday, May 15."So, ladies, get your men folk to treat you.
