Members of Axe Valley Pedallers (AVP), the community cycling club for East Devon and West Dorset, are geared up for all eventualities after a recent bike mechanics evening.

It took place at Seaton’s new Cyclelife bike shop where owner Ian Bruton ran a group through their paces in a specially arranged event.

He covered essential bike safety checks and delivered a puncture repair masterclass.

Members were taught the essentials of roadside repairs and were given a chance to practise their newly acquired skills in the workshop.

The workshop was part of the club’s efforts to give even more to its growing membership by holding monthly social events to complement the regular rides that take place throughout the week.

Prior to the bike mechanics evening, this year the club has already held a successful pub quiz at the White Hart in Colyford and a cycling skills coaching session at the Torbay Velopark.

Next month’s social event will see an AVP film night.

As an added bonus, donations by members at this year’s monthly social events have already raised more than £100 for the club’s chosen charity, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT).

AVP’s club chairman, Jonathan Read-Bone, told the Herald: “As the club continues to grow, we really want to give our members a chance to get together off the bike and enable cyclists of all types and ability to socialize and meet new people through their passion for cycling.

“After the recent mechanics evening, everyone is definitely pumped up and ready for more AVP social events!”

With a friendly and diverse membership of all ages and abilities, Axe Valley Pedallers attracts cyclists from Axminster, Seaton, Lyme Regis and their surrounding areas.

The club’s regular road and off-road rides take in routes covering the East Devon, West Dorset and South Somerset countryside.
