Person killed by train near Axminster

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances following rail death

A person has died after being hit by a train near Axminster this morning (Friday, June 28).

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) and Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the railway line near Lexhayne Lane, at around 7am.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Medics from the South Western Ambulance Service also attended and located a body at the scene.”

The incident, which was reported to British Transport Police at 7.06am, is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the person’s identity and the full circumstances leading up to the incident,” said a spokesman.

“A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The train involved was 6.15am Yeovil Junction to Exeter St David’s service.

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 8.16am.
