SEATON town councillor Peter Burrows has been elected to sit on East Devon District Council.

SEATON town councillor Peter Burrows has been elected to sit on East Devon District Council.

The Liberal Democrat has filled Margaret Rogers old post, after she retired in March.

He gained 2,414 votes - ahead of Conservative Party Candidate John Meakin's 1,795/ Turnout was 70.78 per cent.

Mr Burrows said: "I would like to thank all the electors of Seaton for their support - a 10% swing from Conservative to Lib-Dem. I will do my upmost to make sure that East Devon treats Seaton fairly."]

He was a member of EDDC from 2003 to 2007, when he served on a number of committees, including chairman of scrutiny.

Mr Burrows said he is calling for change, and fighting parking meters in Seaton is one of his priorities.

He said: "I would like to urge Jim Knight and his Conservative colleagues at County Hall to give up the ridiculous parking meters in Seaton and concentrate on repairing the many potholes that are damaging cars."

Seaton residents cast their votes at the polls on the same day as the General Election and these were counted at EDDC's Knowle headquarters at lunchtime on Friday, May 7.

Mr Burrows added: "Finally I would like to say thanks to my dad who died on Monday, who always encouraged me to work for the community.
