PETER Fleming is to succeed Vivienne Ash as Mayor of Honiton. The former deputy mayor was unanimously voted the mayor-elect at Honiton Town Council's annual meeting on Monday night.
Councillor Ash did not seek re-election. Although officially mayor for a year, she chaired the council for 18 months having stepped into the breach following the untimely death of Councillor Chris Tratt during his term in office.
Former mayor Councillor Vernon Whitlock has been elected deputy mayor-elect. Councillor Fleming was proposed by Councillor Alf Boom and seconded by Councillor David Foster. He was praised for his demeanour, with Mr Boom saying he would be an excellent ambassador for the council.
