Sea Fest – Sidmouth’s celebration of all things in, on and from the ocean – has been celebrated as a brilliant event with something for everyone.

Hundreds of families poured down to the Ham last weekend, along with a host of community groups and clubs, to get creative, listen to music, eat local food and relax together.

Now in its fourth year, the festival also left a lasting legacy in the form of two specially-made films celebrating Sidmouth’s coastal location that are now available for all to watch online.

Louise Cole, a Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub director and one of the festival organisers, said: “Sea Fest is all about sharing the opportunity to raise awareness of our coastal location and what is important about it, as well as encouraging people to take up the wonderful opportunities to enjoy the ‘playground of the sea’ and to respect what it gives us.

“We are grateful to everyone for their support in making it a brilliant community event which has something for everyone.”

The Creativity on the Coast marquee was busy non-stop throughout the day. It proved the perfect performance space and was beautifully decorated with a collaborative art installation, Plenty More Fish in the Sea.

Local young talents, including duo Suki Hannan and Sylvie Hodgson Smith and trio Sam Hunt, Zak Robinson and Dellen Hitchens, performed and festival-goers were enchanted by Sidmouth Primary School Choir’s delightful sea songs.

The soulful Anna Hamill was the perfect start to the evening Sidmouth Sea Fest Variety Night, which saw the main marquee bursting at the seams with nearly 400 people attending.

The Sid Vale Community Productions play Jack Rattenbury of Beer created a smugglers’ den atmosphere ahead of the Sidmouth Sea Fest Community Choir, whose shanties got the audience singing along.

This led into the screening of two new films, Creativity on the Coast and Working the Sea that can now be seen at www.sidmouthcoastalcommunityhub.org. Read more about the films at www.sidmouthherald.co.uk.

The evening show then changed tempo again with local indie acoustic duo Zak Robinson and Sam Hunt, before a fabulous steaming finale with Devon band CaveMouth, who got everyone strutting their stuff with their upbeat funk.
