An offer is in place to brighten up the town with new Christmas lights this year.

Colyton Carnival Committee is offering to brighten up the town with new Christmas lights this year.

It has called a meeting at the town hall on Tuesday (April 21) at 7pm, to gauge local support for the scheme, which it will fund.

Secretary Caroline Collier said: “The carnival is in a position to cover costs as we were left some money by a local resident and we are using this to do things for the town.

“So far we have covered the cost of two pieces of machinery for the playing field committee and are investigating the provision of some play equipment at the playing field for disabled children.

“The Christmas lights were suggested by our committee and we are asking for local support. Everyone is welcome to come to the meeting, drinks and nibbles provided.”

Mrs Collier continued: “We have made contact with a firm who will hire the lights to the town for the festive season and take them back afterwards to be refurbished and returned for the next year, if that is what residents would like, or alternatively we can purchase them outright.

“Obviously we cannot proceed without the support of the people of Colyton, so we are extending an invitation to people to come and join us on Tuesday to meet a representative of the lighting firm and listen to his ideas. The carnival committee is in a position to cover the cost, we just need people’s suggestions and support.”
