Plans for Uplyme’s long-awaited new primary school have been given the go-ahead.
East Devon District Council granted outline consent to replace Mrs Ethelston’s Primary Academy with a new building on land near the village hall. The news was greeted with delight by children, staff and trustees, who have worked tirelessly to replace the current out-dated and cramped school building.
The trustees will now consider ways to obtain funding for the new school.
In the meantime, the site is being used by the children for a variety of outdoor learning experiences such as gardening and environmental work.
It is hoped that a new outdoor classroom, provided by the trustees and the PTFA, will be added later this year.
