The first phase of a major housing development in Honiton has been given the go-ahead by district planners.

Housebuilder Baker Estates will now press on with plans to build 85 homes on land between Honiton and Gittisham – the first part of a proposed 300-home scheme.

Of the 85 homes, 22 will be affordable - and bosses at the firm say 30 homes are expected to be built each year.

The development will consist of a range of sensitively designed two to four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached open market properties.

The original plans were amended by Baker Estates and presented to town planners in Honiton before they were approved by East Devon District Council’s development management committee on Monday.
