The homes will be built on land to the rear of Layzell Funeral Services.

An application to build two new homes on land behind a Honiton funeral parlour has been backed by district planners.

Applicants Paul and Greg Layzell will now build the two properties on land to the rear of The Old Court in Dowell Street, which was converted to Layzell Funeral Services.

Their application says the land became available when a redundant building on it - namely the former registrars office at The Old Court - was removed.

The land had no use in regard to the parlour.

The proposed homes will have three bedrooms and offer two parking spaces each.

The original plans were amended after concerns were raised over access to the new homes - namely that the driveway was too narrow to allow fire engines through to get to them.

Fears were also expressed that any additional housing would add the site’s already ‘problematic’ drainage system.

East Devon District Council planners approved the scheme.
