A dessert parlour could be set up Axminster’s town centre if submitted plans get the go-ahead.

Documents have been sent to East Devon District Council seeking approval for the change of use of 1 West Street, which is currently a shop, to a restaurant/café.

The application said: “We are setting up as a Community Interest Company whereby the profits generated by the selling of waffles, ice creams and hot drinks will be put back into the community.”

According the plans, an existing area in Milton’s Yard will be used for storing waste.

The proposed opening hours of the waffle house are 10am to 10pm daily, from Tuesday to Saturday.

The application added: “We will provide internal ventilation for the small kitchen area… making use of the existing extraction vent that is in the property.”

Planners at East Devon District Council will decide the application’s fate at a future date.
