In reply to Councillor Richard Gaughan being "On the case" (Midweek Herald last week). Is he?I am not sure that I like the way he talks about the fact that he does not like fireworks, balloons or plastic flowers. He does not take into consideration the views of the people who visit St Michael's Churchyard on a daily or weekly basis and that of the people he should be representing. The tributes that have been placed on the graves of loved ones are not, and have never been, disrespectful or intended to intrude on the simple peace and tranquility of the graveyard for mourners.I feel that the standard of work carried out in regards to the groundwork (grass cutting) at the graveyard has given much more distress to so many people. The fact that there are no steps up to the new part of the graveyard and the bank can be very slippery when wet.I think Richard Gaughan's time would be better spent looking into this as a council representative to improve the safety of the mourners, like the elderly, rather than his personal likes and dislikes. The things that give so many people so much hope and comfort. A little gnome with a spade placed by a child to remind them of their dad, a basket of flowers or a balloon on the grave of a wife or mother that gave so much love, a little dog no bigger than your thumb on a grave of a dad and granddad that loved his pets as well as his family. At night all the lights from the lanterns glow in the night sky to reflect everlasting life. What a sight; how wonderful to be a part of all of these emotions in such a lovely place.I have spoken to Reverend Karen Spray about the matter.I have been 'on the case', Councillor Gaughan. Do you really know what the majority of the churchyard mourners like and dislike or is this your personal view?Mrs J ManleyElm Terrace Honiton
