AN AXMINSTER writer has been shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards 2008.Greta Stoddart, who teaches at Bath Spa University and for the Poetry School in Exeter, had her collection Salvation Jane selected for the accolade. The poetry collection sold out at Waterstone's in Exeter within a fortnight of its publication last month and a batch of signed copies are now in stock again.Greta, who won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize in 2002 for her first collection, At Home in the Dark, said: "I came across the word 'salvific' in a novel and looking the word up came across 'salvation Jane = Paterson's Curse'. "I was intrigued that one thing could have two such contradictory names and so began days of research into this little purple weed that then became a poem and then the title of the collection."The final judging between the four shortlisted poets will take place in early January 2009. The book is also available at Archway Books in Axminster. Greta also gives readings. If you are interested in staging or attending one, contact mail@gretastoddart.co.uk
