Avon and Somerset Constabulary is appealing for witnesses after a woman and a teenage girl were assaulted in Chard.

The woman, who is aged in her 40s, was attacked in Zembard Lane at around 7pm on January 29.

She was punched in the face and then kicked in the head after she fell to the floor.

The woman sustained a broken rib as well as extensive cuts and bruising in the incident.

The girl was also assaulted as she came to the woman’s aid but was not injured.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: “A man and a woman, both aged 30, have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 101 and provide the call handler with the crime reference number 5218021723.”
