AXMINSTER police are calling on young people to join them for the Commando Challenge 10km tactical event.

Following the success of last year's team, Pc Kevin Bennett is trying to organise teams to take part in the Royal Marine challenge this year.

The event takes place on Sunday, April 25, and youngsters must be physically fit or at least prepared to train.

The 'tactical' element is a 'mission' where teams work together in a patrol - such as grenade throwing (with dummies), moving a broken down vehicle, casualty evacuation, problem solving, resupplying stores, such as ammunition, obstacle navigation, firing realistic air-soft weapons and battlefield pyrotechnics.

Pc Bennett said: "In order to combat both boredom and occasional anti-social behaviour, the Axminster Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHT) has just announced their intention to run a second project aimed at forming, developing and maintaining relationships between young people and the police."

Training sessions start from the end of the month. Young people interested in taking part should contact Pc Bennett at Axminster Police Station.
