Malicious broadcaster operating in the Lyme Bay area
Police are hunting a “Mayday” hoaxer who has been broadcasting distress messages in the Lyme Bay area.
The latest VHF channel 16 transmission was received by Portland Coastguards on Saturday at around 9.45am.
Despite a response and a subsequent broadcast for any stations with information, nothing further was heard.
A spokesman for the MCA said that the voice recording was compared with other spurious transmissions made in the last few weeks and it is believed that this was a malicious hoax.
