A SPATE of frauds involving cars being bought with cheques that have subsequently bounced is being investigated by police.

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary is warning people to be cautious when accepting payment by cheque for vehicles or high value items.

A spokesman said: "Police advice is not to release the goods until the cheque has cleared, which can take up to three working days.
