Police name Lyme Regis woman killed in crash

Helen Case, 73, died after a two car collision in Lyme Road, Axminster - police are appealing for witnesses

An elderly woman who died following a two-car collision at Axminster on Tuesday, November 15 has been named.

Helen Mary Case, aged 73, from Lyme Regis, sustained serious injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased at hospital.

Emergency services were called to Lyme Road around 4pm following the collision between a Ford Mondeo and a Mitsubishi Space Star near the Symonds Lane junction.

The Mondeo was heading uphill from Axminster and the Mitsubishi was travelling in the opposite direction.

The Mitsubishi, driven by Mrs Case, left the road and dropped three metres down a bank before coming to rest against trees.

Also within the Mitsubishi were an 82-year-old man and a young child who both sustained minor injuries.

The Mondeo driver, an 80-year-old woman also from Lyme Regis, was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed for seven hours for officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision and would like to hear from anyone who saw either vehicle travelling on Lyme Road prior to the incident.
