Recorded crime figures were down in Axminster last month.

Officers investigated 23 incidents compared to 29 in the same period the previous year.

But PCSO Andy Trott said with the nights drawing in officers were stepping up crime prevention work in the town to combat villains who tended to be more active at this time of year.

Last month’s crimes included three thefts from vehicles and two cases of possessing illegal drugs. There was one offence of shoplifting and two cases of criminal damage.
