Police target drink-drivers

THIRTY-four crimes were recorded by police in Axminster last month, ranging from drug possession to assault and burglary.

THIRTY-four crimes were recorded by police in Axminster last month, ranging from drug possession to assault and burglary. The figures, explained by Neigh-bourhood Beat Manager Darren Herridge at Axminster's town council meeting on Monday, showed four assaults, four thefts, seven reports of criminal damage and five burglaries. Other crimes included two house burglaries, one common assault, one harassment complaint, four drink charges and one possession of amphetamines.The figures compared favourably with previous years: in February 2007 there were 20 crimes, 28 in 2006 and 41 in 2005.PC Herridge said: "We are proactively seeking drink-drivers and that is why detection figures are up.
