The crime happened after the woman was stopped by a man asking for directions on a map.

An elderly woman had her purse stolen after leaving a Honiton bank, prompting police warnings to keep aware.

The incident happened today (Thursday) after the woman left Lloyds Bank on High Street.

After leaving the building, she was distracted by a man asking for directions on a map. Her purse was then taken from her bag by a woman.

The offenders are described as a white man, stocky build, mid to late 30s, wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans, and a woman with a large straw hat hanging from her shoulders, possibly wearing a black dress.

A similar incident occurred yesterday involving two men and a woman, two of which were wearing hats.

The offenders were described as speaking a foreign language.

A police spokesman said: “Please be vigilant as the offenders have not been found.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting log 345 29/06/2017.”
