A PORTRAIT of Nelson Mandela by Topsham-based textile artist Jane Perkins is the winner of the Visitor's Choice in this year's Thelma Hulbert Gallery Open Exhibition.

This mixed media portrait was created using an intriguing range of recycled objects arranged in a broad spectrum of surprisingly lifelike tones.

Portrait of Nelson Mandela was the outright victor in a public vote drawn from a collection of 43 paintings, sculptures, textiles and mixed media work. The Thelma Hulbert Gallery Open is a bi-annual event, which is open to artists from the South West region. This year's exhibition attracted over 160 initial entries. Our next Open will be in 2011.
