Bicton College has agreed in priciple to proposals to provide a new site for the specialist school based in Honiton.

MILL Water School in Honiton could be set to re-locate to Bicton College after new plans were revealed this week.

The Governors of Bicton College have agreed in principle to proposals to provide a new site on the college campus for the start of the new academic year in September 2013.

Mill Water School, which caters for pupils with learning difficulties, has 95 pupils and is currently in an outdated accomodation in the town.

Work is underway on developing detailed plans for the move after earlier proposals to relocate the school to Cranbrook were found not to be viable.

The head teacher for Mill Water School Alan Sheppard said, “We’ve had a long and frustrating search for a replacement school site to provide the very best solution for our learners and their families. The move to the Bicton College campus would be the perfect solution for all involved and is a very exciting proposition.”

The possible move has been the result of a close collaboration between the college and Devon County Council.

Devon County Council leader John Hart said, “We want to provide the very best facilities we can for Mill Water School and have identified funding of 6.6m towards this project.

“We’re delighted we have been able to reach this point with the school and the college. There will be additional benefits for Mill Water from this association with the college and being situated in such a stunning setting with extensive outside space.”

The school’s current site is too small, with limited outdoor space, and many of the buildings are outdated and in a poor condition.

Bicton college’s governors have agreed to a feasibility study being carried out to develop detailed designs and costings.
