A NEW Post Office trial is being launched at Millwey Rise on Wednesday to help sustain the business.

A NEW Post Office trial is being launched at Millwey Rise on Wednesday to help sustain the business.The branch will offer a wide range of Post Office services alongside retail transactions. One of the first pilot sites in the UK for this type of service, its success will depend largely on customer use.The trial, which will last over 12 months, will look at how often the post office is used and how well it performs to determine whether it is viable long term.Network Change director Sue Huggins said: "We are delighted to be able to launch this service with our partner in Millwey Rise."This is part of a trial and we hope to be able to extend this to other areas in the future. "The success of this trial is, to a great extent, reliant on customers using the branch on a regular basis."Working from an open-plan counter, customers using the trial service will be able to access selected mail services, electronic bill payments, electronic banking, benefit and card account withdrawals, mobile phone top ups. Foreign currency can also be ordered in advance.Extensive opening hours will include Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and early opening times throughout the week.Sub postmaster Terry Fisher said: "I'm pleased but sad it's taken so long. I just hope now that the customers will show that they are happy with it.
