FREE parking attracted droves of shoppers to Offwell in the run-up to Christmas.The village's Post Point, located in the village shop, enjoyed "immense trade" with takings exceeding £1,000 in one week. In the two weeks leading up to December 25, Post Point takings at Offwell totalled £1,834.85.Shop volunteers Jean Killeen and Therese Roberts said the onus now must be on keeping new customers."A lot of people were coming in from Honiton and surrounding areas because of the free parking and to avoid queues," said Jean."The Post Point enjoyed immense trade."But Therese said keeping customers coming to Offwell was now the goal."We'd like to be remembered and would urge people to keep up their support," she said, pointing out meat from local butchers is now available from the shop.Offwell Post Office was closed as part of the government's Network Change programme, but villagers rallied to secure the Post Point.The parish council forked out to ensure Royal Mail kept up collections from the shop.Villagers, who fought hard to save their post office, say the Post Point is proving its worth.
