I am 37 weeks pregnant with my second child and plan to give birth at Honiton Hospital. Two weeks ago I was told I was lucky to be having my baby now as I would still be welcome to stay at Honiton Hospital a few nights before Exeter Hospital take over the running of Honiton.

However, I went for my latest ante-natal appointment today and was told things have changed at Honiton, and I will be sent home a matter of hours after the birth.

I could have cried when my midwife told me this latest change in policy.

I am appalled that the decision has been made to send women home the same day they give birth. I gave birth in Exeter when I had my first child and, because the midwives were so busy, no one had time to show me how to breastfeed. I was transferred to Honiton the next day where the wonderful and dedicated midwives spent time showing me how to bath the baby and feed him.

If you feel as strongly as I do that these changes are wrong please write a letter of complaint to: Tracy Reeves, Head of Midwifery, The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Exeter.
