COLYFORD villagers will be donning medieval costumes to mark the Goose Fayre this Saturday.
COLYFORD villagers will be donning medieval costumes to mark the Goose Fayre this Saturday.
After a one year break due to work in progress, the event will be back at Springfield in Seaton Road.
One of the organisers, Alan Davis, said they hoped to recreate the ancient fayre, which dates back to 1207 during the reign of King John.
He said: "At that time, the village was granted the right to hold a fayre - and continued until 1890. It was restarted in 1980 and this year marks the 30th anniversary of the modern Goose Fayre."
A procession to the fayre starts at 2pm, where the Mayor Colin Pady and his wife Val will parade through the village under a baldachin carried by four villagers.
Various demonstrations of country crafts, such as thatching, pottery, spinning and lace making, will be held in the afternoon.
People can join the Windwhister Archers to shoot for gold, or take part in quintain (which trained knights how to use a lance), skittles and a greasy pole.
A play will be put on by new producer, Nic Askew, who takes over from Jean Wakefield.
Admission for adults is �3 and free for children under 14, accompanied by an adult.
