Town turns out in force to support brave Alex
A FUND raising evening for Lyme Regis crash victim Alexander Quan-Yat-Koon and his family has raised over 2,800 – with more to come.
A group of local mums, calling themselves The Pride Of Lyme, organised the event at the Woodmead Halls – and sold more than 220 tickets.
Mr Quan-Yat-Koon, a trainee accountant, lost both his legs after a lorry ran into him outside the Mariners Hotel in October.
He was guest of honour at the fund raising night when entertainment was provided by “Wessex Star disco”, vocal duo “It Takes Two”, and children’s entertainers “Party Angels”, who all gave their time free.
Jayne Saunders, a founder member of Pride of Lyme along with Jayne Hutchings. Tanya Rattenbury, Karina Holman, Annette Denning and Kirsty Godfrey, said they were delighted with the support.
She said; “The night included a free buffet and raffle, with over 100 prizes, all donated by local businesses and people, an auction of prizes run by William Pelly and an hour-long children’s party as well as a disco.”
“Alex and his family joined us which was wonderful – he looked well and seemed very positive about his future.
“I am so proud of what myself and the other ladies achieved, we worked hard to hopefully give everyone a good night and raise some money and it was an amazing result all round. So much more than we ever imagined.
“We are going to hold one of these evenings every year supporting local people who are in need through no fault of their own.”
