THE run down state of a prime site in Honiton town centre has left councillors in no doubt that it needs updating.Members of the town council's planning committee have unanimously backed plans for extensive repairs to 121 High Street, occupied by Specsavers. The firm of opticians is seeking Listed Building Consent to carry out repairs to the building's roof, front elevation and rendered areas. Specsavers is further proposing to redecorate every window in the building."The problem they've got is that it's in a run down condition and the roof is leaking," said committee chairman Councillor Michael Teare.Addressing a meeting, held on Tuesday last week, he added: "They can't quite replace like-for-like, because the current roof tiles have got asbestos in them."Councillor Liz Tirard, the committee's vice chairman, said: "It's a prime site and we've got to have the town centre improved.
