Coffee#1, which recently opened a shop in Sidmouth, wants its Honiton branch to be in combined space at 125 High Street and Lace Walk arcade.

A coffee house chain has lodged a planning application to open a new shop in Honiton.

Coffee#1, which recently opened a shop in Sidmouth, wants its Honiton branch to be in combined space at 125 High Street and Lace Walk arcade.

The High Street space was recently vacated by ShoeZone.

In the application, Coffee#1 says the new shop will have a ‘spacious internal layout with internal seating areas, creating an attractive, welcome and inviting atmosphere for customers’.

New elements to be installed include a serving counter and a variety of tables and chairs.

Seating outside the shop has been proposed, predominantly in Lace Walk.

The company envisages an area comprising 58 chairs set around 15 tables, to be partially enclosed by canvas barriers.

Colin Wright, president of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce, said it would be nice to have such a community-centred company move to the town, and added that it would enhance Lace Walk’s image.

East Devon District Council will determine the application’s fate in the coming months.
