I write to strongly object to the planning application lodged by SLP for land at Courtlands Cross, Lympstone, ref 10/0694/MOUT, and do so on the following grounds:

I write to strongly object to the planning application lodged by SLP for land at Courtlands Cross, Lympstone, ref 10/0694/MOUT, and do so on the following grounds:

1. This application is in contravention of Policy S6 of the Local Plan relating to development in green wedges, Policy S5 relating to Countryside Protection and Policy EN2 relating to Areas of Great Landscape Value.

These policies were wisely put in place to stop the coalescence of Lympstone and Exmouth in order to preserve the unique character of the village. A development of this size will breach the policies to such a degree as to invalidate their worth within East Devon. Further incursion will be inevitable, Lympstone would become a suburb of Exmouth and other communities with such protection become vulnerable.

2. The East Devon Local Plan - 2006 Appendices stated of Lympstone: "It is of importance to impose a limit on future development for three reasons; firstly to prevent coalescence of settlements along the Exe Estuary, secondly, to guard against over-development which would ruin the character of the village and, thirdly, to prevent still further congestion upon the already overloaded narrow streets." This application breaches this intent.

3. This development is in total contravention to the Lympstone Parish Plan. This was only recently approved by EDDC, but was over a year in the making and involved, and was endorsed by, the whole community - this development has no community support.

4. In a rural community of c2,000 people, this scale of development cannot be accommodated without an impact on schooling, transport and amenities. This application makes light of this impact and totally understates the effect. The traffic effect on the local lanes alone is immense and fraught with danger.

Sirs, I urge you to reject this application.
